COMM Wars "The Scenes Awaken" By Jonah Wendt

In Assembling the Shots by Dick B. Dick discusses the many different strategies that are used for filming movies. Dick begins by discussing the many different forms of editing, including continuity editing, a type of filming in which scenes are shot out of order but are arranged in such a manner so as to present a continually flowing narrative. Dick also discusses how theme and time are used in films.
This is the case in Star Wars "The Force Awakens" The movie is not all shot in one continuous manner. This would be basically impossible to do. As the film is filmed in various locations across the globe. In Star Wars "The Force Awakens" J.J. Abrams uses a variety of different locations to shoot the film.

Example of time in Star Wars "The Force Awakens"
JJ Abrams also experiments with his the usage of time and theme in Star Wars "The Force Awakens" J.J. Abrams experiments with time and theme in this film as at numerous points in the movie he cuts back and force between two locations. This is what Dick defines as Time as "Parallel cutting makes it possible for two concurrent actions to be depicted on the screen without one being completed before the other begins the filmmakers simply cuts back and forth between them." The clips to the left is present because it is the most in-depth clip I could find for the movie right now. The movie is still very recent and as a result is not available in its entirety on YouTube.
This image from the film was taken in UAE

In Star Wars "The Force Awakens" the scenes were shot in many different locations from around the globe. This locations included England, Ireland, Iceland and the United Arab Emirates. Once again, to have filmed all of this in one continual filming session, would have be absolutely impossible as England is quite a far ways away from UAE. The images and information presented here are from http://www.atlasofwonders.com/2015/12/filming-locations-force-awakens-star.html

JJ Abrams also explores the idea of theme in this film. At the beginning of the film, the film was purely about survival for one man and by the end of the movie that one man is fighting to save many more people.

Overall, Dick's writing is very informative and does a great job of informing the reader about the manner in which shots are assembled. From editing to techniques used when putting clips together.
